SkateWorld-San Diego in the Linda Vista Area

October 16th, 2006

We visited SkateWorld for a Birthday party and had a Blast.  What a great place to go for a Party or just to have fun :)   Boy did this bring back childhood memories of rollerskating my summer days away.  I think I want to go again again, not just for fun but for great exercise too.

Skateworld is located in the Linda Vista Area  on 6907 Linda Vista Rd
San Diego, CA 92111-6305.  The phone number is 858-560-9349 for more information. The area is very unassuming and the facade is a  little deceptive when you drive by. It looks like a tiny place but it is actually in a big building.

Skateworld has Skate Rentals for both Roller Skates and In line Skates if you don’t own your own pair.  Skateworld also offers lessons for kids and aldults with no skating experience.

When we attended the party they had a big room with long tables and chairs for the party with balloons (basically all the amenities) drinks, pizza and Ice Cream.  The food and service was very nice.  They also do a special skating/mascot “show” for the Birthday Kids.

Skateworld has an Adult Skate Night currently on Tuesdays 7:30 to 10:30pm. Skateworld is also a periodic location for San Diego Derby Dolls bouts

Old Poway Park

March 24th, 2006

We recently went to Old Poway Park and had alot of fun. This is a great placeOld Poway Park Railroad to go, especially on the weekends when the Train is running. The Railroad consists of volunteers and is dedicated to the restoration and maintenance of antique railroad equipment. The Steam locomotive runs the 1st and 3rd weekend of the month and the Trolley/Speeder runs on the 2nd and 4th weekend of the month. Pricing for the Steam Locomotive is $2.00 for Adults, $.50 for Children. The Trolley is $1.50 for Adults and $.50 for Children. The Speeder Car is $1.00 for Adults and $.50 for Children. There is plenty of Parking in the adjacement dirt lot if the main lot is full. On Saturdays there is a Farmers Market and Craft Fair and also a Historical Museum.

Hamburger FactoryWhen you are visiting Old Poway Park, you must eat at the “Hamburger Factory”.  A fun place that specializes in Hamburgers, hence the name. They have an abundance of seating and the prices are reasonable. The kids love the Hamburger Factory because of the Old West decor and memorabilia. If you aren’t in the mood for Hamburgers, their Ribs (for Dinner) are delicious.  The kids will love The Old Fashioned Ice Cream Shakes and Mom and Dad can select from Wine and Ice Cold Beer. Here is the Hamburger Factory Menu. The Hamburger Factory is located at 14122 Midland Road Poway, CA. 92064 Tel: (858) 486-4575. The Hamburger Factory is Adult and Kid Friendly.

After you fill up on chow and Old West memories you can explore the Park. The Park has many amenities. There is a beautiful gazebo that I have seen many Weddings. A large fountain where children make wishes, a Koi pond (it’s really an enclosed brick structure, but you can see the Koi really well).

Old Poway Village Sidewalf Sundae and Soda ShopAcross the street in Old Poway Village Center is some really cute boutiques and shops. We stopped for dessert at Sidewalk Sundae & Soda Shop located at 14045 Midland Rd., Poway; 858-513-0400.  They have a great selection of Ice Cream (even Bubble Gum) and Sundaes. You can sit up at the counter or play checkers at one of the tables. It can be very crowded, this place is an obvious local favorite. We didn’t get to try the sandwhiches since we stuffed ourselves at the Hamburger Factory, but I am sure they are delicious.

Right next to the Sundae Shop is Tres Chic Boutique. They have very trendy clothing and accessories. I love the handbags here. They also have a great selection of casual clothing.

This concludes our day trip to Old Poway Park.  Sandiegolocales.com

I found a Great Salon.

March 11th, 2006

Ok, this isn’t really a Vacation spot, but I thought I would mention how happy I was with this salon I visited. The salon is Diesel Salon and I was very happy with their service.  I have been to a lot of Salons in San Diego and I am glad I found this one. The Salon is located in the Kensington area right down the street from the Ken Cinema. (You know the place where you use to go see the Rocky Horror Picture Show at midnight) This neighborhood has changed for the better.

The receptionist is super friendly, unpretentious and very helpful. I walk in and she immediately asked me if I wanted a water or tea or something. The architecture was very thoughtful and cool. Even though the facade is very hip, it is a down-to-earth atmosphere.

I didn’t have to wait more than 5 minutes when my stylist appeared.  She was very thorough in her consultation and seemed really concerned about my hair (which has been neglected for sometime). She managed to give my hair a much needed boost of highlights and a trim.

I am definitely going back and my hair looks pretty good :)

Welcome to the adventures of a San Diegan.

March 1st, 2006

I love San Diego. There is so much to do here the possibilities are mind boggling. San Diego is a major tourist destination. I would like to help people who visit here have an informed visit, worthy of their time and money.

So everytime I go somewhere I will give a report here and hopefully someone can value the info.
